There are 20 cities, 263 towns, 103 villages and countless neighborhoods in Tech Valley. But it’s more than just about numbers. Each is unique in its own way whether it’s a charming, historic village or an arts community within an urban setting.
The largest cities in Tech Valley – Albany, Schenectady and Troy – range in population from 50,000 to close to 100,000. Living in a city keeps you close to great restaurants and night clubs, art museums and galleries, and gives you that rush of being in a metropolis. And our cities are safe. Farmer’s Insurance ranks Albany-Schenectady-Troy as the country’s third-safest large metro area. Tech Valley cities Plattsburgh, Poughkeepsie, Newburgh and Glens Falls have also been recognized as being some of the safest areas in the nation.
If suburban living is more your speed, Tech Valley’s towns and smaller cities offer reasonable housing costs, safe surroundings, excellent public education and easy commutes. While we think all of our towns and cities make for a great quality of life, the national media is taking notice. Delmar was recently named one of the best places to live by CNN/Money magazine, and Kingston made the list of emerging cities by Sperling’s Best Places.
Or you may decide to live in the history or scenery of towns like New Paltz and its Huguenot stone houses, Speculator and its views of the Adirondacks or Greenwich – think Grandma Moses country.
New Paltz, Saranac Lake and Saratoga Springs have all been honored by The National Trust for Historic Preservation for being among America’s distinctive destinations.
