Awards

The following awards will be presented at RPI & GE’s FIRST LEGO League Tournament:

Director's Award (1st and 2nd place)
The Director’s Award is the most prestigious award that any team can win. It celebrates the ultimate success of the FIRST mission and FIRST LEGO League (FLL) values. It measures how the team members inspire and motivate others about the excitement of science and technology, solve problems and demonstrate respect and gracious professionalism. To be considered for the Director’s Award, teams must perform well in both technical and team performance categories, which are equally weighted. The team that wins first place in the Director’s Award will not receive any additional awards in the other categories, with the possible exception of the Robot Performance award.

Robot Design Award (1st and 2nd place)
Judges look for teams whose work stands out for its innovation, dependability, or both. To assess innovation, the judges watch the robots work, looking for things that make them say "Wow." They also interview team members to reveal the less obvious unique and inventive ideas. To assess dependability, the judges interview the teams to learn what solid principles and best practices were used to reduce variability and errors, then consider the most consistent teams from among those that ranked highly.

Robot Programming Award (1st and 2nd place)
The Robot Programming Award will be based off the robot design rubrics that deals specifically with programming aspects. This can be found in the coach’s handbook. Basically, this award will judge teams on their ability to program and manipulate their robot to accomplish missions. The completeness, efficiency and creativity of tier programs will be judged.

Robot Performance Award (1st, 2nd and 3rd place)
This award goes to the team whose robot achieves the best score on the competition field at the tournament. In this case, “best score” applies to one round score only, not an average of all three rounds.

Project Award (1st and 2nd place)
FLL presents the Project Award to the team whose quality research, innovative solutions, and creative presentation best reflect an in-depth understanding of the various scientific disciplines and issues involved with the Challenge Project.

Teamwork Award (1st and 2nd place)
Teamwork is critical to succeed in the FIRST LEGO League and is the key ingredient in any team effort. FLL presents this award to the team that best demonstrates extraordinary enthusiasm, an exceptional partnership and FLL values.

Team Spirit Award
Some teams really know how to have fun. This award goes to the team that most enthusiastically demonstrates a commitment to getting others to see how accessible, fun, and rewarding science and technology can be, especially when you are part of a great team.
