CNSE Hosts 300 Students for NanoCareer Day
The
College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering
of the
University at Albany
held its NanoCareer Day program on October 22 as part of its continuing effort to prepare students for a growing number of nanotechnology-related career opportunities in Tech Valley, while also addressing the national need to stimulate an interest in science and technology among America's younger generation.
More than 300 elementary, middle- and high-school students from throughout the Tech Valley region got a firsthand look at careers in the emerging field of nanotechnology when they visited CNSE and its $5 billion Albany NanoTech Complex.
The daylong event included presentations by CNSE faculty on the emerging science of nanotechnology and the career opportunities it offers; hands-on demonstrations explaining the role of nanotechnology research and development, both today and in the future; and, tours of CNSE's Albany NanoTech, with tools and facilities that are unmatched in the university setting.
Participating schools, and their counties, included: Mohonasen High School (Schenectady); Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central School 5th Grade (Greene); Glens Falls High School (Warren); South Glens Falls Middle School (Warren); Greater Amsterdam School District Upward Bound and STEP programs (Montgomery); Ichabod Crane Middle School & High School (Columbia); Waterville High School (Oneida); Ballston Spa Central Middle School (Saratoga); City School District of Albany - New Scotland Elementary School, 5th Grade (Albany); and Guilderland Middle School (Albany).
